Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device

Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys

In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the insignia attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
